A Grand Banks 46 Classic represents the perfect size for a cruising couple that enjoys having guests. Her size allows two persons to handle her with ease. The down-galley layout allows an extra spacious main saloon and helm with a panoramic view. A forward stateroom for guests and a large owner's stateroom aft, with a walk-around queen size bed, provide comfort yet privacy when required. Separate heads fore and aft contribute to this privacy. The large flybridge has a second helm station in addition to an L-shaped settee with a cocktail table. It's the perfect place to enjoy the evening sunset with friends. Heather K. has twin Caterpillar 3208TA diesel engines, each developing 375 Hp, provide a top speed of 15 knots with long range, efficient cruising at 9-10 knots. A 15 ft. beam, stabilizers, and a full length keel provide for a comfortable ride even when the seas pipe up. The auto- pilot, radar, VHF and HFSSB radios, GPS, and navigation programs for both the GPS plotter and a notebook computer allow for a single helmsman on all watches. An 8 kW generator, air conditioner, watermaker, over and under refrigerators, a freezer, an ice maker, a washer, and a dryer make for comfortable living even while on an extended trip away from the beaten path. Exploring shallow rivers and bays is done with the RIB inflateable dinghy that has seats and a console with speed, depth, and fish finder displays. It is powered by a 25 hp four-stroke outboard motor for speed and quietness. A davit with electric winch makes it easy to launch and recover the dinghy.
Four anchors and an electric windlass make anchoring a pleasure. The main anchor is a 105 lb Bügel (German Patent) anchor with 400 ft of chain. It has held Heather K. in sustained winds of 30-35 knots with gusts over 55. Approximately 3200 hours, naiad stabilizers.
